People often ask us:

How do you keep weeds from taking over?
How can I keep my lawn looking green?
What should I do to keep insects away?
How do I prevent my lawn from getting diseased?
The answer may be regular maintenance.A well-maintained lawn is your best defense against most common lawn problems.

Weekly Mowing

Weekly Mowing will keep your lawn looking its best.  In fact, if you let your lawn get too long, it will cause it undue stress when it’s cut.  Cutting more than a 3rd of its height can shock your grass.  Think what would happen if you over pruned a tree.  In addition, with most lawn turf, you should make sure that you’re not cutting your lawn down below about 2 1/2".  Too short and you will have problems with your lawn burning out and turning yellow - especially on hot days.

Irrigation is critical to maintaining a healthy lawn because water is primary to good lawn care. Too much water will attract disease, wash away fertilizer and waste water.  Water too little and you risk burning out your grass. Recovery, after burning out your lawn can take a long time.  Lastly, avoid frequent light watering.  It may seem like a good idea but in the long run, it will lead to shallow turf-grass roots and your lawn will lose it’s durability and drought tolerance.  In addition, frequent light watering can actually encourage weed growth.

Core Aeration

Core Aeration is essential to a healthy lawn.  Aerate in the spring and fall to control thatch and allow water, air, and nutrients into the soil.

Seed selection

Seed selection plays a role in overall health.  Improperly seeded turf can fail to thrive.  We can rebalance the type of grasses in your lawn by overseeding the turf with the correct type of seed for your lawn.

Fertilize regularly to keep your lawn from looking pale and lackluster from nutrient deficiency.  In addition, a dense healthy lawn will help keep weeds from taking root.
A well-maintained lawn will eliminate most common issues like weeds, bugs, and diseases but if you're still losing the battle give us a call.
